The Dancing Elephant - A New Art Gallery and Listening Room
in the heart of New Hope, PA - Exhibiting the breathtaking realism of Alexander Volkov Art. Original Oils on canvas, Hand Enhanced Giclees and Limited Edition Prints on Canvas
About The Dancing Elephant
There comes a moment in life when seemingly disparate events, efforts and visions come together to form a whole, like pieces of a puzzle that create a unified picture. The Dancing Elephant is the intersection of two creative paths; that of an artist and a musician. It represents the body of work of oil painter Alexander Volkov and pianist-composer Heidi Breyer. It is a gallery and performance space combined.
Owner, Heidi Breyer seeks to create a unique space for visitors to enjoy art on a daily basis and monthly musical performances through a carefully curated concert series.
About Alexander
There is mystery and longing in the heart of Alexander Volkov’s paintings. In his depictions of a mythic and timeless rural America there is a world full of change where the past meets the present, nature takes over from man, day turns into night and the seasons seem always to be sliding one into another. The power of these haunting scenes is their ability to draw the viewer into an imaginary yet familiar landscape or environment, where time moves more slowly and the distractions and irritation of modern life are unknown.
Alexander says of his work:
“There is no greater mystery to me than the conflict of light and darkness. In the way they clash and penetrate each other, there is the source of everything. Whether I paint a landscape, a still-life or a portrait, within it there is always a story of light traveling through darkness.”
In the early 1970’s Alexander began painting with oils as a high school student in St. Petersburg Russia continuing throughout his study of Physics at the Department of Leningrad State University. In 1989 he immigrated to America and in stark contrast to the cityscapes and views of the rooftops of St.Petersburg, he began painting the beauty of rural America, the place he has now regarded as home for over 30 years.
He reluctantly refers to himself as a self-taught artist saying,
“If you want to learn, you will always find someone to learn from; Be they dead or alive, great or unknown. You will learn from everything you see and hear around you – if you are willing to pay attention. Perhaps, during my formative years, I have made a lot of unnecessary mistakes, but at the same time I have had the enormous advantage of picking my own teachers”
…and they have included ; William Turner, Franz Hals, Rembrandt, Edward Hopper, Maxfield Parrish and Andrew Wyeth, Beethoven, Satie, Nabokov and Steinbeck, Einstein and Tarkovsky. They were university friends, physics professors and struggling artists. An important facet of Alexander’s subject matter is born out of collaboration with those who commission him to paint their inspiration. These relationships are unique and critical to Alexander’s artistic landscape and he finds great joy and depth in furnishing each collector with their very own vision.
Alexander lives in Frenchtown, NJ with his life partner - composer and owner of the Dancing Elephant -Heidi Breyer. They have a collective brood of 5 adult children and one adorable grandson!

Premik Russell Tubbs - Woordwinds (Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock)
Among our world’s most talented multi-instrumentalists, Premik Russell Tubbs, is a virtuoso master of soprano, tenor and alto saxophones, all genres of flutes, as well as lap steel guitar. He is renowned for his brilliance which spans all arenas from jazz fusion to traditional eastern mellifluous melodies, to his own ingenious soul-infused improvisation. Premik is a skilled innovator and prolific artist whose unique approach brings both a cosmic and spiritual vibe to the sound he projects.
In his early years, Premik was greatly influenced by and had the privilege of studying with saxophonists Joe Allard and Ornette Coleman. He is a composer, recording artist, producer, and instructor whose distinctive career has been flourishing for five decades.
He has toured the world, has performed and/or recorded with Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin and The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Whitney Houston, Regina Belle, Sting and Trudy Styler’s Concerts for the Rainforest at Carnegie Hall, Herbie Hancock, Clarence Clemons, Jean-Luc and Clara Ponty, Scarlet Rivera, Ravi and Anoushka Shankar, Krishna Das, Lonnie Liston Smith, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Billy Joel, James Taylor and the list goes on.

Thierry Arpino - Drums (jean Luc Ponty, Lisa Fischer, John Tropea) Thierry was born in Paris in 1961. His father, André, put him in front of drums and percussion at the age of three. He later continued, studying percussion, piano and harmony at the Conservatoire National de St Maur, then in Boston, Massachusetts, at the prestigious Berklee School of Music.
From Jazz to Rock, from Techno even to Latin Jazz, and from African rhythms to World Music, Thierry Arpino has played it all, and has known how to play it all. How to choose from his career? We have seen him alongside Jean-Luc Ponty, Philippe Saisse, and so many others, in the trios of Joe Beck, Dave Anderson or Burr Johnson, playing with Bill Evans, Ray Gomez or Angelique Kidjo, going on stage alongside Chico Buarque, Charles Aznavour, Daniel Mille, Eddy Louiss or Andy West – recording film soundtracks for Michel Legrand, François Robert or Vladimir Cosma – or records for Joe Beck, Alain Debiossat, Jean-Luc Ponty, Joel Favrot, Marc Bethoumieux, Sarclo, Manu Dibango, Daniel Mille etc…

The Joni Project Presents Wood'vestock
Premik Russell Tubbs performs with The Joni Project for this very special event at The Argyle Theatre in Babylon, New York!
How many of us have thought about all the artists we love who didn't perform at The Woodstock Festival? For this very special show, The Joni Project has gathered together some of their favorite musician friends from Long Island to join them in presenting what promises to be a unique and exciting show: "Wood'vestock" - celebrating some of the artists who didn't make it to The Woodstock Festival.
The Joni Project formed as a tribute in sound and spirit to Joni Mitchell, one of music’s greatest and most innovative artists. The band is fronted by Long Island's remarkable multi-instrumentalist and singer Katie Pearlman, who impressively plays Joni's songs in their original open guitar tunings; and includes jazz and jam band mainstays Dave Berg (guitar), Dan Ehrlich (bass), Alan Lerner (drums), Mark Mancini(keyboards), Steve Finkelstein (percussion), Premik Russell Tubbs (saxophone and flute), and Victoria Faiella (backing vocals). Collectively, they've performed with The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Carlos Santana, Sting and members of the Grateful Dead, The Band, The Doors, the Neville Brothers, and so many others. Together, they bring fresh interpretation to Joni's legendary tunes from their many eras and genres - particularly from the time of her stunning and dynamic collaboration with Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny and Michael Brecker. But The Joni Project celebrates it all - from Both Sides Now, Big Yellow Taxi, Chelsea Morning and Help Me, to Raised on Robbery and Free Man in Paris! "The Joni Project is quite simply the finest and most musically sophisticated tribute to Joni on the scene today!" - Jim Faith, concert promoter and producer of The Great South Bay Music Festival
